Welfare & Rehoming

A lifetime commitment to every horse in our care.

Beyond the Track

At Ciaron Maher Racing, our duty of care extends from the moment a horse enters the stable to well beyond their racing career. Every horse that passes through our doors is treated as an individual, with their long-term wellbeing guiding every decision we make. We believe that responsible ownership doesn't end at the track — it's a lifetime commitment.

We work closely with industry bodies, welfare organisations, and our network of trusted rehoming partners to ensure that every horse transitions into a safe and fulfilling life after racing.

Care During Their Racing Career

While in our care, every horse receives world-class veterinary attention, regular health assessments, and carefully managed training programs designed around their individual needs. Our team monitors each horse closely, and training decisions always prioritise welfare over results.

Horses are given regular spelling breaks on lush paddocks to rest and recharge — because the best racehorses are happy, healthy athletes. Our facilities are purpose-built with horse comfort in mind, from stable design to paddock layout.

Life After Racing

When a horse's racing career comes to an end, we work to find the best possible next chapter. Retired horses are assessed individually and matched with appropriate pathways — from equestrian sport and pleasure riding to breeding programs and paddock retirement.

We maintain partnerships with recognised aftercare organisations and a network of approved homes. Every rehoming is followed up to ensure the horse is thriving in their new environment. Our commitment doesn't end when the horse leaves the stable.

Starlight Express

18 starts, 4 wins

Now an eventing horse in regional Victoria

Starlight Express showed natural athleticism throughout her racing career. When it was time to move on, she was matched with a local eventing rider who immediately recognised her talent. She now competes at club level and has taken to cross-country like she was born for it.

Harbor King

Group 3 placed sprinter

Retired to a pleasure riding home in the Yarra Valley

A fan favourite during his racing days, Harbor King earned a quiet retirement with a family in the Yarra Valley. He spends his days on trail rides through the hills, and his new owners say he still picks up the pace when he hears hooves behind him.

Dancing Flame

22 starts across three states

A beloved riding school horse teaching kids to ride

Dancing Flame's gentle temperament made her a natural fit for a riding school. She now spends her days teaching young riders the basics, and her patience and calm nature have made her the most requested horse on the roster.

Your Horse's Future

As a syndicate member, you'll always be kept informed about your horse's welfare and any decisions about their future. When a horse's racing career draws to a close, the team discusses retirement options transparently with owners to ensure every horse finds a happy home.

Many of our owners stay connected with their horses well beyond racing, visiting them in their new homes and following their second careers. The bond you build with your horse doesn't have to end when they leave the track.
